Event Details

Four stages of guitar fingering: toward a personal fingering method
Contents: Division of the development of a guitarist in four stages (from the beginning to a professional level), according to familiarity/facility/aptitude to finger guitar works. Use these stages to: (A) discuss the traditional paradigms of fingering; (B) directly correlate fingering with musical performance; (C) discover obstacles or assumed ideas that impede personal and unique fingerings and performances; (D) provide and demonstrate exercises so that participants can finger works based on their mechanical and technical possibilities. Passages from works of the traditional repertoire will be shown, and advantages and disadvantages of different fingerings will be discussed.

Course Objectives: Educate participants about the level in which they are in their development as professional guitarists. Provide tools to achieve the next level. Discuss basic concepts of technique and, in turn, provide tools to effectively transmit them to future students. Demonstrate technical exercises: which ones to do, how and why to practice them. Integrate non-traditional fingerings and help guitarists find and apply those that are beneficial.
